Information collected and stored automatically

The Government of Alberta employs software programs to monitor network traffic and to identify unauthorized attempts to replace or change information, or otherwise cause damage. The software logs basic computer information, navigation and click-stream data of the computer that has contacted our server. We make no attempts to link this information with the identity of individuals visiting our site unless an attempt to damage the site is detected.

Logged information is not disclosed outside of the personnel of the Government of Alberta or those under contract to conduct maintenance to web server components. The logs are permanently archived as raw research material. The logs may not be accessed, opted out, or changed by server users.

Cookies

The Alberta Purchasing Connection utilizes cookies as a necessary part of confirming your user identification and customizing your use of the system. You must have cookies enabled on your computer for the APC to operate properly.

Cookies are small text files on your hard disk that store information about your computer and your user preferences (for example, a record of which pages within the site you visited). This helps the system to customize your use of the APC the next time you visit.

Only the information that you provide, or the choices you make while visiting a web site, can be stored in a cookie. For example, the site cannot determine your e-mail address unless you choose to provide it. Allowing a web site to create a cookie does not give that or any other site access to the rest of your computer and only the site that created the cookie can read it.

This web site does not use any other means of collecting information about you or your computer without your knowledge. This web site does not use third party cookies. These are cookies that originate from a site other then the one you are viewing. Ad servers - businesses that place banner ads on web sites - are the primary source of third party cookies.

Personal information collected through this web site

The system does not automatically gather any personal information from you. However, when you register for a user identification and password in APC or enter your company information in the APC Vendor Directory, you will be providing the system with your business information which may contain personal information about yourself, such as your name, phone number, email address, or street address. In addition, if you send us an email or use an APC feedback form to contact us, you may be providing the system with some personal information about yourself or your business. This may include your name, e-mail address and perhaps information about your personal circumstances.

This personal information is only used by APC to process and respond to your questions or facilitate your use of the system. Personal information is collected in compliance with section 33 (c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This information is not disclosed to anyone except authorized personnel who need it to answer your question or process your request.

Vendors that bid on purchasing opportunities posted on APC must be aware that a portion of their bid information will be publicly posted on the system. This information will include your business contact information and the amount bid on the opportunity.

The personal information you submit is secure once it reaches the government server. However, it may not be secure in transit between your computer and the server.
